Duck(ing) Duck(ling) Goose

Rachael brought three baby ducklings to the house for a visit.  Aren't these little guys cute?  It was unclear whether they were running around the backyard frantically to check out their new surroundings, or whether they took one look at Scarlett and Max and were running for their lives.

Probably the latter.

Ok, Scarlett ... that's more like it.

Max was not nearly as interested in the ducklings as Scarlett was, although he did get a few gentle pats in.

And no worries -- I'm happy to report that all the ducklings survived the visit unscathed.  Barely.

Easter 2014 -- Part 2

After hunting for eggs at Grandma and Paw's, we headed out to Mike and Lisa's place for another egg hunt, food, and fun.

Getting ready for egg hunt #2 of the day.  My children are the silly gooses on the left with their baskets on their heads.  At least there were holes in them.

Easter with Schwegmanns/McGinnises = guaranteed cascarone action (in case you're not familiar, cascarones are emptied egg shells filled with confetti and sealed off with tissue paper that you crack on people's heads).  Scarlett thought this was great fun ...

... until it was done to her.  When it was done to her, she WAS NOT AMUSED.

Scarlett probably cracked 10 cascarones on Chris.

Max tried to crack one on Paw's head, but it bounced off (see it flying on the right side of the picture?). I don't know if that says more about Max, the egg, or Paw's head.

Next, Max took aim at Uncle Greg's noggin.

Even Paw had to get in on the fun by surprising BB.

The aftermath.

Pinata time!

Thanks to the McGinnises for a great celebration!

Easter 2014 -- Part 1

We spent Easter Sunday with the extended Schwegmann family this year, hosted by cousin Mike, Lisa, and the boys at their wonderful property out in the hill country.  When we arrived at Grandma and Paw's the day before, Max immediately set out to hit golf balls with Paw.

And Scarlett immediately set out to torment Max by -- brace yourself, it's truly terrible -- sitting in the blue chair instead of the white chair.  Oh, the humanity!  (And Scarlett's expression just rubs salt in the wound.  Poor, mistreated Max.)

Scarlett insisted on bringing this sign with us from home.  It had been in our yard leading up to Easter, but she astutely pointed out that the Easter Bunny was going to get confused if we left it there and wouldn't know where to leave the Easter eggs ... so to Grandma and Paw's house it came!

Dying Easter eggs with Grandma and BB.

Check out the Smurf hands.

The final product.  Aren't they cute?

While we were hard at work dying eggs, Chris was hard at work sawing logs.

The sign worked -- the Easter Bunny found us!

"Dragons Love Tacos"?  What a coincidence -- so do Schwegmanns!

Opening presents from Grandma and Aunt Brenda.

Next up -- the party at Mike and Lisa's.
