Memorial Day Weekend and Swimming!

Scarlett had a big weekend, including two visits to the Club for swimming and fun in the sun. First off, Daddy had to explain to Scarlett how to swim.

Some words of encouragement from Mom, pink hat on, and she's ready to dive right in!

Or maybe not. After a brief and teary dip in the pool, we headed home with plans to try again a few days later. Swimming is exhausting!

It's a new day! And Scarlett has a new bathing suit and hat!

Harper and Campbell gave her a pep talk -- the second time will be the charm. Let's DO this!!

Well ... maybe swimming is an acquired taste. Perhaps golf is more her thing.

But after coming home and getting all cleaned up, she seems no worse for the wear!

Four month checkup

Scarlett had her four month appointment yesterday. Dr. Curry says she's doing great. She weighs 16 pounds 8 ounces (95th percentile), is 26 inches long (95th percentile), and her head is 17 inches (90th percentile). He said given her size we can start her on rice cereal whenever we are ready, but we'll probably wait a few weeks. She got two shots and screeched for about 10 seconds but was quickly over it. Dr. Curry put two Tweety Bird band aids on her chubby thighs and we were on our way! We'll see him again in two months for her six month appointment.

Four months old! (May 21, 2010)

And all caught up on the monthly photos ... whew!

Pretty girl.

Guess what, Winnie? I'm four months old. That's 28 in dog months.

Silly girl.

Ok, enough with the pictures already!

Three months old! (April 21, 2010)

Sitting in Mimi and Papa Tig's "grandbaby" rocking chair.

Scarlett relaxing on her Great Great Great Aunt Tom's chaise lounge.

Rocking her "Check Out Schwegmann Now!" pin from the old New Orleans grocery store.

Two months old! (March 21, 2010)

Now there's a smile!

Whatcha lookin at, Scarlett?

Once again rocking the legwarmers. You're so retro, Scarlett.

One month old! (February 21, 2010)

Every month on the 21st, we take pictures of Scarlett with her month stickers. A few quick catch-up posts ...

Is that a hint of a smile?

Nice legwarmers, Scarlett!

Look at that sweet face ...

Love at First Sight

Right off the bat, Scarlett had some very important business to tend to ... she needed to meet her biggest fans!

Hello, Grandma!

How's it going, Papa Tig?

What's up, Mimi?

Nice to meet you, Grandpa!

Hi there, BB!

And finally, here is a sweet pic of Daddy getting to know his little girl.

The Big Day: January 21, 2010

I suspected I might be in labor during Chris's delicious pork chop dinner on January 20 after a long day at work, but our internet research convinced us that I was not. Plus, Scarlett was not due for two more days and my routine doctor's appointment that day revealed no progress. Turns out the pork chops did in fact do the trick, and I woke up at 3:30 in the morning on January 21 and realized it was show time. We got to the hospital around 7:00 a.m., I got my epidural around 9:00 a.m., and then we waited. She finally made her grand entrance at 5:05 p.m. and much to our surprise weighed a whopping 8 pounds 9 ounces. Here she is taking everything in -- welcome to the world, Scarlett Elizabeth Schwegmann!

Nurse Cheryl (an Aggie), Dr. Ruk (a Longhorn, so it all balanced out in the end), and all the rest of the Medical City staff were amazing; we had a really great experience all around. Here she is hanging out in the nursery saying hello to her admirers through the glass. Actually, it looks more like she's saying "get me the heck out of here!!!"

After a bit of a rough start getting her temperature regulated, she finally got to come to our room for some snuggles.

One more shot of our sweet girl all snug in her swaddle. I remember being surprised at the time at how big she was, and now looking back she seems so tiny!

3D sneak preview

I was looking at our 3D sonogram photos and was amazed at how much Scarlett -- more than two months before she was born -- looks like Scarlett now that she's here. We really did get an amazing sneak preview, don't you think?

Scarlett's Newborn Photos

Click here to check out Scarlett's newborn photo session when she was just twelve days old. Karen Shaw at Hello, World! Photography did such a great job. You can check out more of Karen's work at www.helloworldphotography.com. Take note of the little beauty in the picture on the left of the website's home page -- it's none other than Miss S! Karen was so sweet and patient with Scarlett -- she was here for over five hours. We love the photos and are really looking forward to Scarlett's six month photo session in just a few months.

ATTENTION GRANDPARENTS (and anyone else interested in copies): let me know which photos you want copies of, what size you want them in (4x6, 5x7, 8x10), and whether you want color/glossy, color/matte, color/metallic, or black and white/matte. One of the great things about Karen is that she gives you complete access to the photos, so rather than having to order expensive copies from her, we are free to order as many copies as we want from any service (I'm planning to use Kodak Gallery). I'm going to place an order soon, so let me know what you'd like!

Let's see if I can figure this thing out ...

Rather than posting constant Facebook updates on Scarlett that not everyone has access to (and not everyone on Facebook wants to read), I decided to start this blog so that family and friends can visit whenever they want to hear about Scarlett's latest and greatest adventures. I *think* (and will confirm) that if you sign up to follow the blog, you'll get an e-mail notice every time I post. Bear with me while I play catch up with posts regarding the first few months of Scarlett's life. Once I'm up to date, I'll do my best to post updates as they happen. Thanks for checking out Scarlett's blog!
