Flashback: Snow Storm 2010

Back in February when Scarlett was just a few weeks old, we had a major snow storm in Dallas that coincided with a visit from Papa Tig and Mimi. "How fun -- Scarlett's first snow!" I thought. Little did I know that it would also be Scarlett's first massive power outage. We basically lived like pioneer people for THREE WHOLE DAYS. Well, like pioneer people with a car and great friends down the road with electricity (and hot showers and a warm house) who let us crash there to warm up as needed.

The scene outside really was incredible. Here's the front yard.

Backyard.

Driveway. (Chris's car narrowly avoided those fallen branches.)

Looking west on Colorado.

Sweet Scarlett stayed nice and warm snuggled in her Lamby in the kitchen with the gas burners going (everything in the house is electric except for the stove). Look at that smile! Don't you wonder what she's dreaming about?

Papa Tig checks out his grandbaby.

Mimi and Scarlett watch Chris cutting fallen branches in the driveway.

Scarlett and her Daddy check out the snow drifts on the front porch.

Winnie is glad she's not a pioneer dog.

Snuggling by candlelight.

It was quite the adventure, but next time we're going to a hotel!

Boyd the International Baby of Mystery

Scarlett recently met baby Boyd, who she has admired from across the pond for ages (well, for just a few months, really, but she's only five months old after all). Boyd was born in England in December, recently moved to Muscat in Oman, and has Texas roots. How intriguing is that?

"Hello, Scarlett. How do you do?"

"Hello there, Boyd."

Boyd did what any self-respecting gentleman-baby would do when meeting a lady for the first time -- he offered Scarlett a drink.

And then he smacked her in the head with the cup. I'm sure he'll work on polishing his skills so he's a bit smoother next time he sees her.

Five Months Old! (June 21, 2010)

Here are some shots of Miss Scarlett on her 5 month birthday. She's getting to be such a big girl! (17 pounds, 8 ounces to be exact according to Peggy's cat scale that she loaned us.)

Such a sweet face.

Scarlett gnaws on anything she can get her hands on -- Sophie the giraffe, her teething rings, blankets, her own hands, my knuckles, you name it. Maybe a tooth or two are planning to make an appearance soon?

This chair tastes delicious.

Hanging out on the front porch (but only for a minute or two because it's SO CRAZY HOT outside).

Back inside where it's nice and cool (well, at least sort of cool).

BB's Visit

Scarlett's BB came for a visit a few weeks ago and we had lots of fun. First, lunch with good friends and shopping were on the agenda. Thanks for the fun beach bag, BB!

BB helped Scarlett make her first Father's Day present -- hand and foot prints for her Daddy. Scarlett was very interested in watching the prep work.

But making the actual prints ... not so much.

Scarlett showed BB her swimming skills (well, really more like "water lounging" skills), and the ladies showed off their new hats.

Next we loaded up the car and headed to the Hill Country. First stop was Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Next stop was Kerrville to visit my godmother Cherry and her husband Jim. We accidentally crashed their wedding anniversary. Scarlett wore a cherry outfit in celebration of the event.

We spotted lots of wildlife, including this family of three, but Scarlett was not all that interested. She had better things to do (like chew on her hand).

We had a great time on our road trip as well as the rest of BB's visit. Scarlett loves her BB and can't wait to see her again!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to Scarlett's Daddy, Grandpa, Papa Tig, Great Grandpa Barnhouse, and Great Grandpa Geiman! We had a fun day at the pool, a nap, and a delicious dinner. Chris cooked his own Father's Day dinner, which I feel a bit guilty about, but he swears he enjoys cooking (and I certainly enjoy eating his cooking). Scarlett and Sophie the Giraffe helped a little, too. Chris even made a delicious berry crisp. How lucky am I (for this and many other reasons)?

Scarlett discovered her feet this weekend and now she wants to grab and hold them all the time. Those chubby legs kill me.

She also is taking more of an interest in Winnie. Soon Scarlett will probably want to grab and hold her all the time (she got a quick ear tug in this afternoon while we were playing on the floor). Winnie -- enjoy your freedom while you can.

One last shot of Miss Scarlett in her Daddy's lap.

Playtime!

Scarlett is beginning to LOVE to play! Probably her #1 activity at the moment is hanging out in the exersaucer her friend Chandler loaned her. Thank you, Chandler -- the exersaucer rocks!

She also has gotten really good about spending time on her belly (something she was not a fan of until recently). Looks like she's practicing to get ready to crawl.

Poor Winnie doesn't understand why there are so many new toys in the house that she isn't allowed to play with. It's just not fair!

Soon enough, instead of Winnie messing with Scarlett's toys I suspect the problem will be Scarlett messing with Winnie's! (Note Winnie giving Scarlett the side-eye ... Winnie might be on to her already.)

Scarlett's First Trip to New Braunfels

We packed up the car and headed to New Braunfels for Mother's Day weekend. One thing we have definitely established: Scarlett is a flier, not a driver. She's been really great on her four flights so far. Road trips ... not so much. At one point I got in the back seat to try to calm her down while we were driving, but it actually made things worse. Poor baby. She just doesn't understand why she can't get out of her carseat, a/k/a the Chair of Despair.

Scarlett was feeling much better the next day. She took a quick trip to San Antonio to meet her Great Grandfather Geiman, then we headed back to New Braunfels where she watched her Grandpa cook a delicious brisket.

Some friends and family came over for dinner, including Uncle Greg and Cousins Erin and Paul who got some big smiles from Scarlett.

Erin brought the awesome artwork that she made for Scarlett. Dozens of Schwegmanns colored in Erin's design at Scarlett's baby shower back in November, but we didn't have her name finalized yet, so Erin brought it again for us to finish up now that Scarlett is officially Scarlett. What a special keepsake this will be!

Here's Scarlett and Uncle Greg getting ready to head out for Mother's Day brunch on Sunday.

After brunch, the Schwegmanns posed for a group shot. It looks like poor Scarlett started to figure out that another long car ride was in her near future.

Despite the car ride, Scarlett can't wait to go back for another visit, especially when she will be big enough to chase deer, turkeys, and peacocks and ride the tractor with her Grandpa!
